The amount of time it takes shoppers to arrive at their grocery store of choice varies from neighborhood to neighborhood. If you're someone who has to travel a long way, we've got some good news. Thankfully, several beloved grocery stores are in the middle of huge expansions. The list includes low-cost favorites, such as ALDI, Lidl, and Trader Joe's.

If you love to shop for groceries at Target, you're also in luck. The retailer is planning to open up dozens of new locations following a spike in sales earlier this year. In total, Target is poised to open more than 50 stores, and we have the list of states where you'll see them pop up. (Related: This Is the Best Supermarket in America, New Survey Says)

Target sales rose by almost 23% earlier this year.

Lots of Americans are apparently making Target runs right now, as the chain reports "growth in both sales and profitability."

"Our performance in the first quarter was outstanding on every measure and showcased the power of putting our stores at the center of our strategy," CEO Brian Cornell said in a Q1 earnings report. "Store comp sales grew 18% in the quarter, even as they also fulfilled more than three-quarters of Target's digital sales—including more than 90% growth of our same-day services."

This news, combined with the strategic plan that the company put in place at the end of 2020 to open 30-40 new locations, means that more stores are on their way!

How did Target choose these locations?

Though details about each location aren't available, Target says it's focusing on opening stores "to meet community needs in urban centers, college campuses, and dense suburban cities across the country" based on factors such as site constraints and where other Target stores are located in the area. This includes opening small-format stores in larger cities and mid-size stores in suburban areas.

Some of the new locations won't have as many items as other Target stores.

Target, surprisingly, is a great place to stock up on nutritious groceries, and it recently added 30 new cheap plant-based grocery items under $5. However, shoppers can expect the variety of items at each of the 50+ new stores to be different, so keep that in mind before you head out.

The largest store in the works is 145,000 square feet, and it's coming to Katy, Texas. In contrast, the smallest store will be considerably smaller. The new Michigan store that's opening on State Street in Ann Arbor will only be about 12,000 square feet.
